Victoria Hall is pleased to bring together some of the very best folk musicians for a Grand Gala Charity Concert. The proceeds will be used to buy much-needed computer equipment for a school in Cochin in the southern Indian state of Kerala. The concert will feature Dial (Alan Holmes & Di Denney), Angie Archer, LocTup Together (Chris Locke & Ian Tupling), Wendy Arrowsmith, Over the Yardarm (Paul Baldwin, Moira Clarke and John Burge) and Bill Adair.
For the last two years Bill Adair has been travelling to Cochin to work as a volunteer music teacher in some of the most deprived schools. There he met and worked with Sister Lizzie Chakalakal, headmistress of Our Lady’s High School for Girls in Cochin. Sister Lizzie is an amazing woman who, apart from her work at the school, has undertaken a project to build houses for homeless families. To date, with help from local builders and business people, they have managed to build almost 100 homes.
Her school has very little modern equipment and is in need of computers. As Bill worked with the staff and girls he was so struck by the overwhelming welcome he received that he decided to try and help raise the necessary funds. For the last year he has travelled throughout Central Scotland performing small fund-raising concerts, but something bigger was needed. So, with the generous help of his many musical friends in the north of England, and with the kind support of Ann Harding and all at Victoria Hall, this gala concert was arranged. It promises to be a wonderful musical smorgasbord and a great night for a worthy cause
