Flying Scotsman in America: the 1970 tour, by Richard Hinchcliffe and Bill Wagner.

This is a rare chance to catch Richard Hinchcliffe’s richly illustrated and unexpurgated talk about his father’s management of Flying Scotsman and the historic and controversial tour of the USA and Canada. Richard recently appeared extensively in the Channel 4 documentary by Brite spark films: The Secrets of Flying Scotsman: https://www.channel4.com/programmes/secrets-of-flying-scotsman

It’s a talk for a wide variety of audience not just railway enthusiasts.

Content of Talk:

• How and why Flying Scotsman went to America

• Where it went, what it did

• Why Alan Pegler went bankrupt

• Involvement of the British Government

• The cultural conjunction of Brits and Yanks

• Previously unseen footage of FS in America

Giggleswick Railway Circle (GRC) is a voluntary group that holds regular meetings for anyone interested in railways.

So, if are you interested in….

·         Past, present and future railway operations

·         Locomotives and rolling stock

·         Railway buildings, track and signalling

·         Railway photography

·         A history of railway lines and their communities

… then come along to our meetings.

Normally our meetings are held at 10.30 on the 4th Wednesday monthly, but please check the diary before travelling.

GRC is not a club; all are welcome to the meetings, and there is no subscription or membership needed. Refreshments are included in the admission charge.

  • CABARET SEATING

Most of the shows at Victoria Hall use ‘cabaret-style’ seating. This means that your seats will be unreserved, which allows you to decide where to sit when you arrive.

The stalls (downstairs) are set up informally, with chairs around small tables, for a sociable, relaxed atmosphere, and somewhere to put your drink. Cabaret seating also allows space for dancing, which is highly encouraged at Victoria Hall!

For those who prefer a more ‘traditional’ theatre experience, the balcony seats are laid out in rows and raked, ensuring all seats have an excellent view.

For parties of six or more, tables in the stalls can be reserved- contact us to reserve a table. If you have reserved a table, we ask that at least one of your party turn up at least 30 minutes before the performance start time, in order to secure your table.

We can always reserve seating or wheelchair spaces in the stalls for those unable to use the stairs- just let us know when you book your tickets.
