Victoria Hall couldn’t function without our team of over 100 volunteers, who give up their time to keep the world’s oldest Music Hall going strong. Whether it’s fundraising, cleaning, selling ice-creams at the interval or taking care of the box office, there’s a wide variety of ways to get involved at Victoria Hall. You can find out more about our most common volunteering roles below, or pop into the office to talk to us about how you can get involved.
All our volunteers and supporters are members of Settle Victoria Hall Ltd. Membership is open to all, allows you to attend and vote at AGMs, and costs nothing, apart from an obligation of no more than £10 if Victoria Hall Ltd. should ever be closed down, which we obviously hope will never happen. You can cancel your membership at any time by contacting Victoria Hall.
The most common ways of getting involved are listed below, but if you'd like to get involved in a way that's not below, we'd love to hear from you as well.
Stewards check tickets on entry to shows, make sure that all theatre-goers can find their seats, sell ice-creams during the interval, and help to make the ‘Victoria Hall experience’ the very best it can be. Stewarding, bar and box office duties all require training, provided by Victoria Hall staff.
Victoria Bar runs on almost every show night, selling a wide range of bottled beers, lagers, ciders, wine, and soft drinks, as well as snacks. It can get quite hectic on busy nights, but working on the bar is always a lot of fun. Previous bar experience isn’t required. Stewarding, bar and box office duties all require training, provided by Victoria Hall staff.
The box office is open 10-2 Monday-Friday, and 45 minutes before all evening events. Manning the box office involves selling tickets answering the phones, and occasionally other office duties. Most of our box office volunteers do a regular two-hour daytime slot every week, but there’s no need to make a regular commitment- we also need occasional volunteers who can fill in when regulars aren’t available, and there’s always a need for box office helpers on show nights. Basic computer confidence is helpful if you’re interested in being a box office volunteer, but we provide all the training you need.
Kitchen and Cafe
A dedicated team run the cafe during the Tuesday stalls, the monthly auctions and allsorts markets, and other non-regular events. Kitchen-helpers sell refreshments and bake cakes and scones- if you've been along to one of our cafes and thought how delicious the home-baking was, our cafe-helpers are the ones to thank, and they're always looking out for new helpers.
We are always on the lookout for new fundraisers, and new ideas. If you have an idea and would like to put on a fundraising event, get in touch. We've had a huge variety of events in the past, from quizzes to make-up demonstrations, and we're always open to new ideas.
