Uli Jon Roth: Interstellar Sky Guitar Tour- Postponed to 26 March 2021

Uli Jon Roth (Scorpions, Electric Sun) announces his first ever one-man-solo world tour for 2020!

The musical career of Uli spans an amazing five decades.

As an artist, Uli is a multi-faceted phenomenon whose unique set of artistic talents has gained him an international reputation as a musical visionary and innovator. During his five year tenure as a member of Scorpions, Germany’s number one rock band, Uli built the foundation for his status of guitar legend, and soon gained an international reputation as one of the most important innovators of the electric guitar.

Uli was the first electric guitarist who had the vision and ability to significantly introduce a whole armoury of classical techniques towards the electric guitar, thus vastly expanding the hitherto somewhat limited technical vocabulary available on the guitar. Furthermore, Uli was the first guitar player in rock music who brought genuine classical know-how and virtuoso dexterity towards the instrument, a fact which has gained him the somewhat strange title of “father of neo-classical”. Many of Uli’s ground-breaking techniques, his runs, phrasings, arpeggios - even dive bombs - became a blue-print and stepping-stone for legions of younger guitarists, who tried to emulate his style and ideas. These included younger players like Eddie van Halen, Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, who - before embarking of successful careers of their own and becoming famous in their own right - have named him as a major influence.

The INTERSTELLAR SKY GUITAR TOUR is going to be unlike any other tour Uli has ever done.

I have prepared an eclectic mix of music for this and it contains some of my all-time classical favourites in the first half. Pieces by Mozart, Bach, Puccini - which I am interpreting a la “Transcendental Sky Guitar” - and Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, a piece which I love to play, because it is most exciting and a challenge, followed by my Metamorphosis Concerto. The second half will be dedicated to mainly my own pieces and it will include a couple of Electric Sun and Scorpions tracks with orchestra backings.

It is true that for years I have largely neglected my more classical repertoire and the Sky of Avalon/ Transcendental Sky Guitar music on stage. But quite a few among my audience have asked me repeatedly to play this kind of music again. Well here it is. This tour will be completely dedicated to my “other musical half” – the world of melodic and dramatic orchestral pieces, my personal favourite world of music. This framework will give me the opportunity to do many new things which I couldn’t possibly do in a band context and I’m really looking forward to this artistic challenge!
