Soup and a Show: Clare Douglas and Richard Moss

  • Settle Victoria Hall 24 Kirkgate Settle, England, BD24 9DZ United Kingdom (map)

Enjoy a bowl of Jane’s homemade soup while listening to the fantastic Clare Douglas and Richard Moss.

Rebecca Clare Douglas and Richard Moss are two musicians of high calibre performing with uncommon passion, grace and sensitivity.

They met whilst performing with Mike Harding in his band the William Small Small Orchestra and found a musical kinship that has developed into something very special.

Clare is an accomplished violin player with a background in classical music combined with a love of traditional music, having performed with Scottish dance band The Pictish Players and the Giggleswick Temperance Band. In 2020 she released The Fiddler from the Mountain of Fire, a collection of self-penned tunes inspired by the landscape, history and folklore of the Ingleborough area.

Richard delivers amazingly intricate guitar work with a richly accented, warm singing voice. He is well known in the northern folk scene performing at clubs and festivals both solo and as part of Drop the Floor. His solo album, Back To The Yellow Hills, explores tradition from the Northwest of England and journeys through 19th century Blackburn poetry, with highly accomplished arrangements and self-penned instrumental tunes.

A distinctive thread weaves through the music of Douglas and Moss: it is a sound that is deeply rooted in their home in North West England - the atmospheric hills, industrial towns and evocative coastlines - alchemised with echoes of their  musical experiences in Ireland, Scotland and further distant lands.

Cafe open from 12.30, music 1-2pm. Drop in and out, or stay for the whole show!

Free Entry

The cafe will be open for soup, hot drinks and homemade cakes

  • Most of our shows use ‘cabaret-style’ seating. This means that your seats will be unreserved, which allows you to decide where to sit when you arrive.

The stalls (downstairs) are set up informally, with chairs around small tables, for a sociable, relaxed atmosphere, and somewhere to put your drink. Cabaret seating also allows space for dancing, which is highly encouraged at Victoria Hall!

For those who prefer a more ‘traditional’ theatre experience, the balcony seats are laid out in rows and raked, ensuring all seats have an excellent view.

For parties of six or more, tables in the stalls can be reserved- contact us to reserve a table. If you have reserved a table, we ask that at least one of your party turn up at least 30 minutes before the performance start time, in order to secure your table.

We can always reserve seating or wheelchair spaces in the stalls for those unable to use the stairs- just let us know when you book your tickets.
